Finally, this is the article you have been looking for!

Have your dogs vaccines up to date

If you would like to travel from Ireland to the Uk with your dog, your dog’s vaccines will all need to be up to date. This includes Rabies, especially. Your dog will need to be vaccinated against rabies at least 21 days before you travel into the UK. Many other EU countries would also like your dog to be dewormed against Tapeworms, but this treatment isn’t needed for entry from Ireland into Brittain. It is advised though, that you see a vet 4 months before your travels to ensure that your dog is up to date with all vaccines, and is healthy for travel. A vet will give your dog the relevant certification it needs for travel.

Your dog must be microchipped

It’s important for your dog to be microchipped before your trip. The number on your dogs micro-chip must correspond with the number on their EU Pet Passport.

Follow these procedures for travelling with your dog

You can travel via a ferry to the UK from Ireland. If you are travelling via car, your dog will need to stay in your car, or in his kennel for the entire duration of the trip. If you would like a kennel from the ferry, then you will need to book it in advance. At no time are dogs allowed on the deck amidst passengers.

If you are travelling on foot to the ferry, your dog will need to be in a secure and comfy crate for the trip. Your dog should be able to stand and lie down in their crate. This crate will need to be your own. Your crate needs to be the correct type though if it isn’t then you won’t be allowed to bring your dog on board.

If you have a guide dog or assistance dog, they will be allowed to travel on board with you, but they will need to have the correct paperwork with them. It is advised that you call the ferry in advance though to let them know that you will be bringing your guide dog along and if you need any assistance.

Extra information

If you would like to travel via ferry to the UK, then you will only be allowed to take a maximum of 5 dogs with you.

Enjoy your trip!

Travelling from Ireland to the UK is quite an easy procedure. By following the above rules and regulations, you can be sure that everyone in your family, including your beloved canine companion, will have a safe and relaxing holiday.
